James Law Cybertecture International brings high-tech solutions to large scale structures through innovative ideas for intelligent living. The latest future forward design from this firm is the Cybertecture Egg, commissioned by Vijay Associate (Wadhwa Developers) for Mumbai, India. The 32,000 sq m egg-shaped building will combine “iconic architecture, environmental design, intelligent systems, and new engineering to create an awe-inspiring landmark in the city.”

Cybertecture integrates technology, multimedia, intelligent systems and user interactivity to create customizable living and working spaces that focus on experience. The Cybertecture Egg takes this principle working theme a step further with ‘cybertecture health’ – interactive features that monitor occupant’s vital health statistics, like blood pressure and weight. In keeping with the focus on health and wellness, users can customize their views with real time virtual scenery.

The oblong office building incorporates passive solar design to decrease heat gain and lower energy loads. An elevated garden also moderates temperate by using natural vegetation to assist with cooling the building envelope. The Cybertecture Egg will use solar photovoltaic panels and rooftop wind turbines to generate onsite electricity. Water conservation will be managed with a greywater recycling system that will harvest water for irrigation and landscaping.

The building is due for completion by the end of 2010.

Calgary’s new green skyscraper by Foster + Partners

Foster+Partners, Foster and Partners, Green Architecure, green design, green building, The Bow, Sustainable Design, Sustainable Building, EnCana, Ecotourism, Calgary, Norman Foster, green building, Canada, sustainable building, green skyscrapers, green skyscrapers Calgary

What does one of the largest independently owned oil and gas companies do to turn over a more sustainable leaf? Well, in this case, EnCana hired green-tech architecture firm du jour Foster + Partners to design their new, environmentally sustainable headquarters in Calgary, Canada. Dubbed The Bow, the new tower’s namesake comes from its overall shape, as well as the breathtaking views it offers inhabitants of the Bow River. As expected from a Foster + Partners design, the form of this sustainable skyscraper follows some very green function.

prefab friday inhabitat, Maison EvolutiV prefab, Olgga Architects, wooden modular buildings, prefabricated architecture, prefab structures, Salon Europeen du Bois

This gorgeous wood container prefab from Olgga Architects was turning heads at Salon Europeen du Bois in Grenoble last month. At just 70 square meters (about 753 square feet), this energy efficient abode is made of two prefabricated modules perched one on top of the other. Rather than box out the structure with a stacked configuration, the designers pivoted the top unit to create a variety of interesting and integrated outdoor spaces, as well as a variety of structural possibilities.

Smog Eating Eco House in Cyprus

Iosa Ghini Associati, Cyprus, modern architecture in Cyprus, photo-catalytic concrete, anti-smog architecture, Mediterranean architecture, modern architecture in Cyprus, sustainable design, Iosa2

This striking modern structure cuts a profile every bit as sleek as it is streamlined for efficiency. It is composed of four single family units joined by a flowing fusion of glass and “smog-eating” photo-catalytic concrete, creating a series of separate yet structurally connected spaces. Italian architects Iosa Ghini Associati designed the residence to integrate seamlessly into its sweeping Mediterranean landscape, and its airy day-lit interiors benefit from a slick set of green features including adjustable solar panels, rainwater recycling, and a heat storage system.

Iosa Ghini says that “the project started with the aim of creating a new residential area alongside Pedieos River, near Nicosia, Cyprus. The makers wanted to realize four one-family luxury houses shaped in an organic, fluid form. They designed the four units in a whole overall organism hosting four units each one keeping its own morphological features. The building is full of green features that provide for clean energy and also save your bills.”

The residence fuses cutting-edge contemporary materials with traditional ones such as locally harvested stone. Its smooth structure is composed of photo-catalytic concrete, a material containing an active agent that reacts with light to break down air pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and benzene. Low emissivity glass helps insulate the interior, while adjustable solar panels and a rainwater recycling system cut down on utilities. A heat storage system helps to regulate temperature when day turns to dusk. This stunning residence is currently cleared to be constructed by Full Circle.
